In 2018, I organized ten colleagues from seven disciplines, all affiliated with the Department of Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies, and we won an $86,000 competitive contract to infuse Latinx Studies content into the Fort Worth Independent School District’s core social studies curriculum. We held community forums with focus groups, conducted an audit of existing standards, and produced a guidebook that introduces the field and provides sample activities to help teachers weave Latinx Studies lessons into each grade level (lead author David Colón; forthcoming, TCU Press, fall 2022). We also led a series of professional development trainings for K-12 teachers.
